Last weekend was a series of firsts for me: first time camping, first time going to a dark sky park, first time going up to the Upper Peninsula—the list goes on. The novelty of it all was shocking—having spent the entire summer more or less cooped up inside, I’d forgotten how nice it was to be out and about (in the most socially distant way possible).

Sometimes it's just nice to look at an aesthetically pleasing picture. Hopefully, this counts as one. I shall call it Lights and Rain on a Street with Cars and Reflections in the Winter in Vancouver. Stay healthy everyone, and we got this!

I took this picture on the Sunday before class started, and I was originally going to write something about getting back in the swing of things, but now that seems out of place. Instead, I’d like to remind everyone that there can be small instances of peace and calm found anywhere at any time, especially during this time of panic and emergency.

After running back to a friend’s dorm in the pouring rain, this double rainbow was the perfect reminder that great things can come out of unconventional situations

When it often feels like life’s only constant is the promise of change, it can be refreshing to find an unwavering sense of stability. Kindergarten me may have only just begun to understand the beauty of literature, but she would have loved to hear that the world only grows with each book, poem, and story she discovers and learns to express.

Thanks to all my girlfriends, those of you that have served as a shoulder to cry on, a cuddle buddy, a prom date, a first kiss, and everything in between. I appreciate you, and I love you. So, whether it is a family member, a friend, a lover, an ex-lover, yourself, or whoever else, tell someone you love them today.

This is a giant clothespin statue in Philadelphia. It is a unique art installation choice that I was thrilled to discover was close to my hotel. There was no reason for my happiness about this statue, just that I knew I needed to go see it before I flew back home. I think that is what made it so exciting — not having a reason for my enthusiasm.

My grandmother sent me this of her husband and her siblings enjoying a day on the beach in Florida. It brightened a particularly stressful day and I’m so grateful to have their smiling faces in my life!

Every time I see this photo, it reminds me that while any feelings of being tired and overwhelmed are perfectly valid, I need to remember to look for something beautiful. Sometimes it will even be right in front of me; I just have to open my eyes.

I took this picture of my parents in Yosemite National Park this past August. Surrounded by such beautiful views, it was quite the internal battle between keeping my phone stored away and capturing a few memories via Instagram.

I love Christmas almost as much as my dog loves rolling around in and napping amidst the post-present wrapping paper. Spending time with my family, and of course my dogs, over winter break is something that I look forward to every year.

This is a photo on my Instagram of me eating my 3rd hot dog, and yeah, I look terrible. Gosh, there's so much to look at. The sun burn! The AWFUL quality! My chubby little hands! But, that's me people. Unedited. Unphased. And very, very happy. It takes strength to show the world who your are, but when you do, you become more comfortable with yourself. And let me tell you, the hot dog is worth the happiness.

This Thanksgiving - and every Thanksgiving - I'm most grateful for my father. Not only did he raise me with love, kindness, and respect, but he also stood still for me to take this photo of him. Love you, Dad.

A few weeks ago I reminded myself of how important it is to take advantage of as many experiences as I can when I skipped a few lectures to go to a concert with my brother in Columbus, OH. It was a night that I’ll never forget, and missing lecture was so worth it.

I snapped this at the Arb during one of the nicest days of the school year. It was a Saturday, game day, and my friend and I basically had the entire place to ourselves. We laid out under this tree and took in this view, close to perfection.

When I was flying back home for fall break, my plane was delayed so much that by the time I was in the air, the beautiful sunset that I had been hoping to capture from above had already darkened into night. Of course, I ended up spending as much time as I could staring out and drinking it all in, but once I got over my dismay, I realized that even if I never managed to get the perfect photo, that night was all the more beautiful because of it.

I took this picture when I was in Nashville this summer for my internship. This just reminds me that change is going to happen whether I like it or not, so it’s best to go with it instead of trying to fight a losing battle.
