Chrissy Teigen Pt. 2

When celebrating pregnancy and birth, we often overlook the trials and tribulations associated. Recently, we’ve highlighted Chrissy Teigen for speaking out about postpartum depression, a mental illness that affects women after they give birth. As a well-known model, author, chef, and television personality, she has a platform that encompasses different groups of people, though the experience she recently spoke out about is one that is universal.

Nearly 1 in 8 known pregnancies end in miscarriages. Calling it “the kind of deep pain you only hear about,” Chrissy Teigen recently posted on Instagram about a miscarriage she had just experienced. She briefly described the complications and the love she and John (husband) had for this baby whom they’d started calling Jack and wrote, “Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”

The prevalence of miscarriage and the corresponding heartbreak that Chrissy Teigen opened up about is important because it is an experience so many women share, yet it is not openly discussed. Though she faced criticism about her post, it liberated other women to share their similar experiences and started a conversation about the stigma attached to women’s reproductive health. Many women are forced to remain silent about their experiences and made to grieve alone; however, in opening up about her miscarriage, Chrissy Teigen reminded women that this experience is one shared by many, even celebrities.
